The Spice Island of GrenadaThe Spice Island is the most southerly of the Windward Islands, and is simply stunning. White sand beaches, coral reefs and swaying palms – it remains one of the most unspoiled of the Caribbean islands. The weather is fantastic, with daytime winter temperatures typically between 28-32°C, while the sea itself is in the mid 20°s throughout the year. Away from your sunbed, you can explore the island’s natural beauty such as Concord Waterfalls, while the little capital of St George’s is a bustling, colourful Caribbean town. The beaches are, of course, the main attraction, with Grand Anse Beach the most famous, but we reckon it’s hard to beat the location of our chosen resorts!
“A little gem in every respect, from the amazing beachfront setting to the friendly vibe.” Danielle Quinn, Friendship Travel (Reservations)
Kalinago Beach ResortRound the coast from Grand Anse Beach, in a quiet corner of the island, is Morne Rouge Bay. The white powder sand shelves gently out into the sea, making for safe swimming and a glorious view. Kalinago is the name the original Carib Indians called themselves, and this boutique three-star hotel prides itself on its Caribbean hospitality. Every room at this family-run property looks straight out to the Caribbean, with either a terrace or balcony. In front of the hotel is the curvy pool, with swim-up bar and sun decks with comfortably cushioned teak loungers. And just the other side of the balustrade is pale powdery sand and the sea! The location really couldn’t be better. The rooms are a good size, with cool tiled floors and colourful soft-furnishings. They’re well-equipped and offer everything you could need. The Restaurant is in the main building, beside the hotel rooms, and provides what we describe as a ‘soft’ All-inclusive package, with the emphasis on soft drinks to quench the thirst rather than rum punches all day every day! There’s no holding back on the food, but we’ve opted for one night off in each week so we can try out the local restaurants. Dinners at the hotel are a mix of BBQs and set 3-course meals, while the Christmas and New Year departures include festive Gala dinners. If you can tear yourself away from Kalinago, it’s only a 2-minute taxi ride or 15 minute walk to the resort of Grand Anse Beach – with shops, bars, eateries and clubs as well as a host of watersport options. Kalinago is newly-opened by the owners of the well-respected Gem Holiday Hotel. With a Friendship Host thrown in to create a real houseparty feel, we are sure that you’ll have a great time in this superb location!
