Algarve, Portugal

It will come as welcoming news for many as the cheapest holiday destinations for UK travellers are revealed. Those looking to book cheap family and solo holidays in Europe for the up-and-coming months will be sure to get their money’s worth.

The Algarve, Portugal has come out as the most affordable, with year-on-year prices dropping by 18 per cent. The value for money in the Algarve, compared with other popular holiday destinations, was the most favoured reason for UK travellers to visit the country. With a three-course meal for two averaging £16 in the Algarve, a long-haul destination such as Dubai would set you back much more at around £130.

Blgaria was the second cheapest holiday destination, with prices again dropping by up to 18 per cent and a pint of beer costing a mere 60 pence.

Another reason for sudden price drops in popular cities and major resorts around the world is the strengthening of the sterling against other currencies around the world.

According to the Post Office Travel Money, who conducted the survey, if the sterling continues to hold its strengthened value, holidays will get even cheaper by the end of the year.
