The Ministry of Tourism has reported that the total number of tourists who visited the country during the month of March was 762,562, which is an increase of 3.7 percent over the same period last year.

The uptick is putdown to a surge in French tourists to Morocco (an increase of six percent), Dutch visitors (increased by four percent), and Americans coming to the country, which has gone up by a whopping 24 percent.

According to the Ministry, the main beneficiaries of these gains are the popular cities of Casablanca and Marrakech – with Marrakech being a particular favourite of singles abroad on holiday.

The prized attraction of Marrakech is the labyrinth Medina (Old City) district. A maze of narrow alleyways, and wonderful local shopping opportunities. This is the place to be for sampling what the city is all about.

Other top sites include the Saadian Tombs – a 16th century burial ground of the Saadian dynasty – and the Marrakech Museum, a beautiful building which plays host to a fascinating collection of contemporary art, local ceramic pieces, and textiles.
